The Alliance was formed in 2005 by representatives of various Hillsdale neighborhood organizations for the purpose of fostering communications and collaboration.

Representatives meet quarterly in January, April, July and October.

The Alliance organizes an annual Hillsdale Benefit Book Sale, whose proceeds will go to member organizations through an as-yet-to-be-established Hillsdale Community Foundation. Two sales in 2006 raised $6,000. Another is planned for July 29 of this year.

Alliance member organizations are the Hillsdale Neighborhood Association, the Hillsdale Business and Professional Association, the Hillsdale Branch Library, Hillsdale's public schools (Wilson High School, Robert Gray Middle School and Mary Rieke Elementary School), Hillsdale Votes, Neighborhood House, the Hillsdale Farmers Market, SW Trails and the Hillsdale Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET).
