The meeting began with introductions and getting caught up on what our organizations are doing.

•    Glenn Bridger noted that Hillsdale needs a representative on the SWNI education committee.

•    Jim Morris noted that there are now 29 NET team members.

•    Don Baack announced an upcoming walking tour for Council candidate Nick Fish. One is being arranged for Mayoral candidate Sho Dozono.

•    SW Trails Work continues on removing invasives in Himes Park and on building and improving a 25th Avenue path.

•    Don suggested naming the oak where many walks beging “The Hillsdale Oak.”

•  John Frohnmayer introduced himself mentioning why he is running for the U.S. Senate as an independent. John noted he would be at Rick’s house on Jan. 16 to talk with those who are interested.

• After the Dec. 9 book sale, the Alliance has $12,000 in its account. The sale raised $3,000.

• The "Light Up Hillsdale" campaign has raised $12,000 toward its short-term goal of $21,000 to pay for the Watershed light sign, the tower light and the corner water fountain.

Major items:

• Kevin Swanson of RenewableNRG gave a presentation ways tax credits are being used to finance the installation of solar electrical-generation panels. He has investigated the Wilson/Rieke site on the ridge above the Rieke parking lot as a potential site and is pursuing the idea with the schools. Some in the group suggested other sites on the schools property, including the proposed cover over the Farmers market site.

• Rick passed out draft Alliance by-laws but it was the group consensus that the Alliance should remain informal and not have  by-laws. The draft may be useful in forming a Hillsdale Community Foundation. Rick said he would be willing to facilitate for the 2008 meetings but hoped for a replacement in January 2009. The concept of having three committees — Book Sale, Hillsdale News, Foundation — was agreed to.

The group Adjourned at 8:55

Next Meeting: Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the RE/Max-Equity Group Building.
